Freebie of the Month - Gratitude App
While this month's "freebie" may not seem directly related to career development or job searching, I believe this recommendation will have an impact on your overall mental well-being - an impact that is certain to trickle into how you think about your career and job search.
By the time most clients reach me, their confidence and positivity has been tapped-out.
I hear a lot of "lack of". Lack of prospects. Lack of interviews. Lack of skill. Lack of education. Lack of experience. Lack of yadda, yadda, yadda.
And, if you think this "I'm not enough" attitude isn't seeping into your job search/career development, you're fooling yourself.
One of the best ways to pull and attitude 180, is to stop ruminating on "lack" and start focusing on "ambundance".
Concentrate on what you do HAVE and what is GREAT.
A gratitude practice is one of the best ways to kick-start this shift from "lack" to "abundance". Ending (or starting) each and every day writing down what you have to be grateful for. It's a small, 5-minute exercise that can trigger a profound transformation in how you view your life and yourself.
It makes you feel happier. It trains your brain to seek out the positive. And it will rub-off on everyone you interact with (think recruiters and hiring managers - they want to hire happy, positive people).
This is not touchy-freely, new age nonsense. It's science.
Here's what to do:
1 - Go to gratitude.io to sign-up.
2 - Select email or text options, and the time of day you'd like to receive your "reminder".
3 - Respond to the reminder when you receive it with 3 or more things you're grateful for.
4 - Press send.
Your response is saved in your own, private journal (that you can visit any time). Also, on Sundays, you'll receive a recap of everything you said over the week - meaning a super motivating and positive set-up for the week ahead!
You're gonna love it!
Even if you feel silly doing it, just give it time...eventually, everything will feel just a little better - and that's the tiny edge you need to succeed in your career transition, job search, or development strategy!
Give it a try and let me know how it goes. I'd love to get your feedback - you can contact me here or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org (I answer EVERY message).
Full disclosure: I've been using this free app for over a year and it's the only gratitude practice I have ever been able to stick with. Of course, sometimes I miss a day or two (or a week), but I always come back to it, because it makes me feel MUCH happier, confident, and hopeful.
